2004-05 Season Match Reports
4 September: Rotherham Internet Millers 4-1 Donny R'sonists
by Alan Brown, report back to the R'sonists Mailing List;
Just to say thanks to all our lads who turned out and gave Rotherham a game - the introduction of their super subs (or rested main players) turned the game decisively in their favour after we had held out and looked slightly comfortable at 1-1 for some time. All the better considering Glen had to go in nets again - and special thanks to Big Matt and Ryan for turning out to make up a 12 man squad - perhaps with some of our missing players to spread the load we could have matched them more closely in the dying stages.
Praise has to go to the Rotherham lads for their sense of fair play and the Internet footy spirit, and thanks also to the ref for being honest and up front about things - yes there were disputed decisions as in any game, but compare the responses of the Millers lads in those situations to those of certain other teams we have played recently. (Note: this is not with teacher head on, but with "I've reffed a few games mesen" head on). Finally, superb follow-up and hospitality in the pub afterwards - much appreciated and hopefully we can return the effort.
Referee's Man of the Match: Mr Paul Exton, for a tireless display.
AB's Man of the Match 1: Big Nige, for some superb layoffs after winning the ball - much improved.
AB's Man of the Match 2: Alex Dougal, for out-angrying Shuttleworth, and for scoring from a better free kick than Lampard.

26 February: Donny R'sonists 2-3 Fir Park Corner (Motherwell)
by Alan Brown, report back to the Donny R'sonists Mailing List;
Just to say thanks to all who turned out - truly a game of two halves, with Fir Park Corner playing some neat footy to go 3-0 up by half time. (2nd goal was a superb shot by the way.)
We were all over the place and never really got going - combination of getting the new lads involved and not playing with any tactics at all – and of course Fir Park Corner being much better than us. All change in the 2nd half where we gave the Scottish lads a game, pulling it back to 3-2 and then unlucky with quite a few chances - FPC clinching the win with an injury time strike.
Things worked much better in 2nd half with a more stable line-up and Macca dropping deep - we need to keep this system (Macca for tactician, as well as corner flag and ladders supplier) though will it enforce changes to roll-on roll-off "fair play for all" system that we have traditionally operated? (discuss).
New lads look promising - especially nice to have a real keeper, although poor Neil admitted he was out of his depth (yes even at our level). Thanks to Matt and Graham for volunteering to make the numbers up for FPC - gave the game balance too. Ta too Daz for sorting out food at pub; quality sarnies, shame about landlord/lady moving on.
Hope the Scots lads had a good time out in Donny and got some enjoyment out of the Swindon game - should have been a relatively entertaining one for the neutral supporter, I would have thought.
