Always nice to get in a match against new opposition so we were delighted to host FC Buxton, who stopped off en route to watch Buxton face Frickley Athletic.
A few late pull-outs from the R'sonists squad meant something of a makeshift line-up for the hoops, although we still managed to uphold the IFA spirit by lending Buxton a man to make it 11-a-side as Ian McKenzie kindly swapped shirts, as too did Trevor Charlton in the second half after a Buxton man picked up a knock. As ever it was an enjoyable fixture played out in the IFA spirit which is always what we look for in these games, but it was also nice to finally chalk up a win with three goals and three goalscorers notably Rob Johnson who struck his first ever R'sonists goal with Dan Jennings and Christiaan McKenzie also on target. |

A point! A point! A kingdom for a point! The R'sonists got off the mark (ignoring the fact that the IFA gives you a point for a loss) with a ten goal South Yorkshire thriller at Rossington.
Unfortunately details on the game itself are sketchy given that manager Matt Smith was charged with producing this report and could barely remember the name of the goalscorers, let alone how the goals went in. Instead, his detailed report consisted of the following text "Ok, good lads as always, I was ace in goal by the way!" Admittedly more detailed than your regular broadsheet coverage of the third tier, but hardly the sort of riveting read you'd want from a match containing ten goals. From Matt's goalkeeping boasts we have at least attested that Sheffield United had struck three of their five goals before the break as Smith conceded just two afterwards... did he tell you how ace he was? Thankfully other folk have filled in a few of the blanks so it was a goal each for the Harriman brothers, one for Dan Jennings and a brace for the always threatening Rob Farra that enabled Donny to avoid defeat for the first time this season. |

An improvement of sorts for the R'sonists who were competitive for over an hour before falling away against Barnsley on the Keepmoat Stadium astro-turf.
In an even first half both sides had chances to take the initiative, but it was the R'sonists who wen tahead as big Andy Harriman produced an excellent finish for his third goal of the season. Barnsley would equalise before the break, as a couple of fortunate ricochets as it seemed like Donny had cleared the danger dropped the ball back at their striker's feet and he tucked it home for 1-1. The second half would be a much more one-sided affair as the R'sonists struggled to get hold of the ball in Barnsley's half. All except for Harry Swain that is who caught hold of the ball all too well when attacking a corner, inadvertantly meeting the delivery bollocks-first to insight a 23 man collective whince. Late in the game the R'sonists began to lose their shape and Barnsley took advantage to score five goals in the final twenty minutes. A harsh scoreline on what had been an enjoyable morning and for the most part an evenly matched fixture. |

Not the best start to a season the R'sonists have ever enjoyed if we're honest as Shrewsbury brought nine men and an eleven-year old child to Doncaster and still managed to run in seven goals.
Because we're a nice bunch we had elected to even things out for the game by dropping one man to the bench for a game of ten a-side, although Dave Burkett's insistence on a pre-match half marathon round Clumber Park meant that was enforced as much of chosen. The threadbare R'sonists were as short on forwards as they were fitness and struggled to make inroads on Shrewsbury's defence in the first half with the visitors stretching out to a two-goal lead before the break though it could've been a different story had the R'sonists taken a couple of decent chances before the break. Ealry in the second half Shrewsbury made it 3-0, but on the hour mark Donny sprung into life and threatened to make a game of it with two goals in quick succession. Andy Harriman headed home a first, and then within a couple of minutes had his and the R'sonists' second as he stretched to meet Louis Bailey's excellent low cross. Bailey would bring the game's highlight a few minutes later with a comedy double 'foul' on halfway that had the opposition in stitches,,, of laughter thankfully. And high spirits were needed for the R'sonists as they fell apart late on. Shrewsbury running in a succession of late goals and striking the post on a further four occasions to wrap up the win in an enjoyable fixture. |
